Holiday in Scotland
We spent the last week of June in Scotland, in the small town of Oban on the west coast. It was beautiful, and relaxing, and did I mention beautiful? Our hotel room looked out over the water and we watched some stunning sunsets from there. We went for walks, read our books, took thousands of photos (literally thousands) and enjoyed the fantastic scenery.
One of the best things we did was a wildlife tour, which was a full day out, starting with the 0645 ferry from Oban to Craignure on the Isle of Mull. From there we took a bus to Tobermory, which is a stunning small town at the north end of Mull. It has a bookshop, a whisky distillery and some very good-looking cafes.
From there we went on a seven-hour boat trip out into the Sound of Mull and out toward the Isle of Rhum. It was incredible. We saw seals, whales, dolphins, even eagles. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend Sea Life Surveys. The crew were super knowledgeable, and infectiously enthusiastic about each animal spotted. They work closely with the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust to log sightings. I loved it.
We spent the last two days of our holiday in full-on lap-of-luxury mode at the Isle of Eriska, a very fancy country hotel on a private island. Yes, you read that right. The hotel restaurant is Michelin-starred and oh my did we eat well. We also saw deer and more seals on our meanders around the island. It was amazing. I miss holiday.
