Sunday Salon: Mooching
I don’t know about you, but some weekends I just need to switch off and relax. But how I relax might mean different things at different times. For instance, I had planned to spend this weekend reading solidly, maybe even treat it like a read-a-thon with goals and a little stack of pre-selected books. But when the weekend rolled around I found that I needed something else. So I have read for maybe an hour or two total, but I have slept a lot, eaten good food, watched TV and films, listened to music, sat outside in the sunshine, laughed with friends and with Tim. And now I feel rejuvenated.
How do you relax? Do you need different types of down time?
Incidentally, this week is Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, so there’s been a lot of this:
Plus the roar of various stunt planes overhead, the pounding bass of the music every evening, fireworks that we can just about see over the rooftops. It’s one of the things I love about this city.
And now that my brain is back online, I have a backlog of reviews to write, not to mention another Graham Greene book to read for Simon of Savidge Reads’ wonderful challenge Greene for Gran, in which he encouraged us all to read some Graham Greene in honour of his recently departed grandmother, as Greene was her favourite author. It’s such a lovely idea and great to be reminded how brilliant Greene was.
What are you up to this weekend? Have you rediscovered any authors lately?
I need every weekend like that and am glad that you are getting one of those weekends. They’re great to have. This weekend was to be one of those weekends. So far, not quite on the reading, but good music, good movies (well, one anyway, called Sleepwalk With Me) and I’ll get to be outside later (mowing the lawn, but hey, I’ll be outside and it’s not supposed to rain, yay!).
I stopped by your blog today.
Ann
I need to unplug, with some books and movies. A nap. Sitting outside on the patio.
Enjoy!
Here’s MY SUNDAY UPDATES/MAILBOX MONDAY
I definitely need different types of down time. I spent much of yesterday inside reading. It was way too hot outside to do much. Today it’s a little cooler so I think I might go wash my car. It certainly needs it! Plus, being outside and doing something productive is one of the ways I like to de-stress.
Bryan and MJ Doing chores can be relaxing as it lets you tick them off the list and that’s so satisfying!
Ann and Laurel-Rain Happy Sunday!
It doesn’t always have to be about the books. (I can’t believe I just typed that!)
I start each weekend with great intentions to just indulge in some reading. But what always happens is that I spend way too long reading some blogs, then there;s the gym and shopping and the garden. Before I know what’s happened it’s time to put the glad rags on and go down the pub or out for dinner. Midnight rolls around, I try to read and fall asleep with the book still open in front of me.
I unplug by reading, watching tv or movies, riding my bike or going for a walk along the river. I also like getting together with family to play board/card games and eat some good food.
